Global Learning
The Global Learning Medallion is an interactive, participatory program consisting of an extensive series of activities designed to enhance global awareness, global perspective, and attitude of global engagement. Through these unique experiences I was able to grow academically and professionally with a deeper understanding of global cultures.
Global learning courses are part of the FIU University Core Curriculum. Interdisciplinary in content, these courses deal with essential questions and complex issues that are best understood and addressed through multiple disciplinary perspectives. Global Learning courses set the stage for students to make interdisciplinary connections throughout our university career and incorporate a co-curricular activity as part of the syllabus and class content.
For my Global Learning Capstone, I completed an internship at the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Western Hemisphere, Office of Economic Policy and Summit Coordination in Washington, D.C. During my time at the State Department, I participated in meetings with senior-level U.S. Government and foreign government officials. Drafted, edited, and contributed to cables, reports, communications, talking points, and other materials used by policymakers in furthering U.S. foreign policy objectives. I supported events, including international and/or multilateral meetings and conferences. And engaged directly with U.S. audiences in helping to explain the work of the Department of State or foreign audiences in helping to promote U.S. foreign policy and improve understanding of U.S. culture and society.
